![]() This post is made to save alot of new to paintball guys/gals some time and cut down on all these "What is a good gun?" threads. Hopefully here you will find what you are looking for and this thread will be of great help.
Q. What is a good beginner gun for someone who has never played before? A. I have made a list of the top 3 out of many guns I have played with that performed well and didn't hurt your budget. 1. WGP Synergy Equalizer $170 or somewhere close to that. This gun is a great gun for beginners. It has 3 modes to choose from which include semi, psp, 3 ball burst and full auto. It has eyes (which is always a plus), Adjustable Trigger, High pressure regulator and comes with macro line hose. It can be powered by N2 or Compressed air. Guns shoots really good and is comfortable to hold. The only thing I would have to change is the feedneck because the plastic clamping neck won't last. Barrel is cocker threaded. 2. Spyder VS1 $199 This gun is not a bad gun for the money it goes for but there are definately better if you want to throw out double or even triple the cash. It has Multi-modes (semi or 3 shot burst) with eye and tournament lock. It has the gas thru foregrip which is really nice. It feels pretty good to shoot and of course its a blowback so you may want a good hopper (electric) that will keep up with it. This gun is powered off co2 or compressed air. 1 of the things that needs to be done is add a drop forward. Overall its a great gun but like stated before there are better guns if your willing to spend more cash. 3. Smart Parts Ion $170 The ion is a pretty good feeling gun. The grip is very comfortable and has a nice vertical regulator which is a pretty good grip. The factory says is shoots 17 bps but I have not got it to shoot that when I played with it. It has the eyes and runs off a 9 volt battery. It is usable on Co2 or Compressed air. This gun is pretty accurate for the most part but that really depends on the paint your shooting because ive shot several kinds of paint and lower quality paint had a slight curve out of the barrel. Q. What are some good upgrades for the gun out of the box? A. First you need to play with the gun to figure out what you think it needs but out of all three of these guns I have tested I can tell a good barrel would greatly help. A good barrel for you new players on a budget is any of the J&J Ceramics. Q. What size barrel do I need to get? A. Well I always add a 12" barrel to any of my guns and a bore of .687 or a bore of .689. You can go a 14" barrel but anything over that is overkill and drops velocity quick. Biggest tip is get a barrel that is pretty good size for most field paints because too small of a barrel breaks paint and too big of a barrel lets air escape around the ball in the barrel causing inaccuracy. Q. Where do I get my Co2 tank filled and how much? A. Find the nearest paintball or sporting goods store and they fill them. Usually they are around $.25 an ounce but that may vary for location to location. I just know thats what it runs me at my local fields. Q. What is good tips for taking care of my gun? A. Before hooking up your air source always put a few drops of oil in the asa (I personally use liquid fire) and lube your barrel o-ring before threading your barrel on. Make sure you only get paintball related oils as anything else could and may damages your gun. When you break a ball you need to field strip your gun and squeege the barrel and the top tub of the body. Make sure there are no little chunks of the ball in the body that can damage anything internally. Always clean the gun and lube it after a day of play to prevent any damage later. Main thing is make sure all o-rings are lubed and in good working order. I like to change all my o-rings on a regular basis (preventive maintainance). This is some guidelines for the new paintballer visiting the site any more questions just PM me.
