It is better to clean your paintball gun than to sit and relax for few games due to jammed triggers or barrel problems. There are many different brands of paintball guns available in the market. To clean your gun, you need to know few general guidelines that are applicable to almost every paintball gun.
To start the cleaning of your paintball gun, the first thing to do is to remove the air source from the gun. Never try to clean your paintball gun unless the air source is disconnected. The second thing to do is bring the instructional manual of the gun provided by the manufacturer in front before disassembling the gun. The manual contains the diagrammatic representation of gun and its parts. This will make reassembling much easier for you after cleaning the gun. Next, remove the hopper, barrel, bolt, hammer or striker and grip frame. Put these things separately and neatly aside.
Begin the cleaning process from the barrel. Put a squeegee inside the barrel to clean it and pull it out. Also, use a paper towel and warm water to clean the outer part. Again, use a squeegee through the barrel to dry it. Make sure the barrel is dry. Now, clean the inside of your gun's body. Some guns allow you to run a squeegee throughout the body. If you own such a gun, do it. Next, use Q-Tips, old toothbrushes, and paper towels to clean those hard to reach places. Take your grip-frame and clean out the broken paint and other debris with a small brush. Clean your bolt and hammer/striker with a paper towel and warm water. Make sure to dry these pieces thoroughly. Inspect the o-rings on both components carefully. This is where most air leaks occur. Replace any o-rings that are cracking, dry, or otherwise look funky. Check other internal parts for repair or replacement.
Once you have determined that the internal parts are in good shape and are clean, lightly lubricate them with paintball gun oil or lubrication (pay special attention to the parts that move). Do not use any other type of oil, as non-paintball gun oil can damage your gun. I personally recommend Slick Honey Grease. Lubricate the o-rings with paintball gun oil or silicone. It should be used in a very light layer. At last, reassemble your paintball gun, as per the guidelines in the manufacturer's manual and chronograph it before using it.
The cleaning process may seem boring to you, but once you clean your gun few times, it will not be boring to clean it repeatedly thereafter.
